Kids 17 and under receive free daytime admission to OSV this summer during July and August when accompanied by an adult paying full price admission.* No further discounts apply.
Join us throughout the summer as our costumed historians tend our six gardens; mind the livestock on our working farm; work in the blacksmith, pottery, cooper, and tin shop; cook over the hearth; and much more.
Better yet, use that free daytime admission to attend one of the following special events.
Independence Day Celebration - July 4
Independence Day was one of only three holidays commonly celebrated in early 19th-century New England. At Old Sturbridge Village we mark the day with rousing fife and drum music, drilling and marching on the common, dancing and singing, a parade, and more. Children will have a chance to make three-cornered paper hats, play period games, and learn a dance. The Village will also host a Naturalization Ceremony with a reading of the Declaration of Independence.
Fire and Ice Day - July 19
In the summer version of this event antique fire trucks parade around the common. Visitors can try 19th-century hand-pump fire trucks and compete in several events. Local vendors will also compete in the Best Chili in History contest in which visitors vote on their favorite chili. Our ice component will be represented by ice cream making with old-fashioned tools and recipes.
Redcoats and Rebels - August 2-3
In August Old Sturbridge Village hosts Redcoats and Rebels, the largest reenactment in New England. The Village becomes a sea of tents and soldiers as over 100 reenactors make camp in every available nook and cranny. A mock battle is waged with guns and cannons roaring and soldiers host tours of their camps, put on a fashion show, and entertain with music and stories. On Saturday night, visitors have the chance walk the tents as dusk falls and the reenactors cook their nightly repast.
Textile Weekend - August 15-16
Join us on this weekend to learn about a wide variety of 19th-century, needle-based crafts including yarn sewning for foot stool covers, knitting lace, crocheting, netting, embroidering pockets, and more. We will also open our new textile exhibit, which will prominently display “going-out clothes" and new hand-crafts of the 1830’s.
Family Fun Days - August 30-September 1
Bring the whole family to Old Sturbridge Village for Family Fun Days to celebrate Labor Day! Family activities include playing baseball the way early New Englanders did, making a craft, joining a game of French & English (tug-of-war), meeting the oxen in training, trying your hand at marbling paper, seeing a puppet show, watching a toy fire-balloon flight, meeting a magician, seeing craftsmen at work, and much more! Learn more.
*Admission is limited to five children per one adult. Non-teacher chaperones in educational groups have the option to pay full-price admission and bring five children in free. Licensed teachers in educational groups, however, receive free admission and are thus not eligible for the Kids Free promotion.
