Slavery was not just a unique Southern institution, as it is often perceived. The institution existed in New England from the very beginning of colonization, and played an important role in shaping the region’s economy and society.  Enslaved people labored in shops, in homes, and on farms through the Revolutionary era and into the nineteenth century, building families and communities.  Join OSV Research Historian Dr. CJ Martin for a look into the rise, fall, and consequences of slavery in New England from the colonial period to the early nineteenth century.
