1946 Circle Honorees
Old Sturbridge Village is delighted to honor Reed and Therese Hillman as the 1946 Circle Honorees at the 10th Annual Gala. Reed and Therese have been part of the Village and the community for many years.
Reed is a former Superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police and former Massachusetts State Representative. He is currently a professor and chair of the Criminal Justice department at Mt. Wachusett Community College. Reed served on the Board of Trustees for Old Sturbridge Village from 2007 to 2012 as well as on the Boards of Harrington Memorial Hospital and Rehabilitative Resources. He is currently the Chairman of the Board of Old Sturbridge Academy, the new public charter school opening in August of 2017.
Therese recently retired from 27 years of teaching third grade at Sturbridge’s Burgess Elementary School and her approach to teaching was strongly inspired by things she learned at Old Sturbridge Village. Her former students fondly remember the classroom adventures of dyeing wool with local plants, boiling down maple syrup from trees tapped on the Hillman's property, or making ink and trying their hand with quill pens on parchment. All lessons which were easily reinforced by the annual classroom visits to the Village. She also has a passion for horses and old houses.
The couple’s first home in Sturbridge was an antique farmhouse off of Podunk Road, bought after they married in 1978. Reed and Therese are the proud parents of two adult children, Ethan and Amber, and their three grandchildren. We are thrilled to be honoring a couple who is deeply involved in their community and Old Sturbridge Village at this year’s Gala.
