By Industry We Thrive!
Our costumed historians make up the heart of the Village – but they need training, supplies, and tools to make it happen. Each new costumed historian receives several days of classroom lessons about the society of the 1830’s. In the Village, they receive even more training to fully hone their skills making pottery, crafting shoes, dying yarn, operating a printing press, and hammering tin just like in the 19th century. We need your help keeping these important crafts and trades alive by supplying our interpreters with training, supplies and tools they need. Give today!
Rebuilding the Piggery
This spring our staff will begin to restore and rebuild the John Partridge Allen Piggery at Old Sturbridge Village, a structure originally located in Sturbridge across the road from the original site of our beloved Freeman Farm. The installation of the piggery will be an ongoing program, open to visitors as our costumed interpreters use 19th-century methods of construction to build the structure. Your gift will support the piggery installation and help showcase fun and educational 19th-century farming and foodways programs at the Village. Give today!
Where Needed Most
As a Village, truly active and operational 365 days of the year, Old Sturbridge Village’s monthly giving program helps to care for and maintain all aspects of the Village and museum. As the needs of the Village change, so will the direction of your gift. Every day the museum is faced with new and unexpected challenges in operating the Village – from removing snow in the winter to replacing boilers and leaking roofs. Give today!
Each year, Old Sturbridge Village hosts more than 55,000 school children through field trip experiences and hands-on workshops. The museum's team of educators works every day to connect students with early American practicalities, values and their relevance to modern-day life. From hiring engaging educators to introducing innovative curricula, the Village is working to make our interactive, immersive museum more accessible to students of all ages. Give today!
College Intern Program
For the past decade Old Sturbridge Village has grown its college intern program into a robust program which hosts up to 20 interns from across the country each summer. Our interns choose from a variety of disciplines, including costume interpretation, education, agriculture, horticulture, curatorial and marketing. This year, we began offering $1,500 stipends to the interns. Thanks to two generous donors, all donations for the interns made through September 2016 will be matched up to $15,000. As a Blue Star Museum, Old Sturbridge Village offers free admission to active duty military, National Guard, Reserve military, disabled veterans, and career-retired military members and their families. We are able to provide this because of the support of our generous donors. Every $25 that you donate provides complimentary daytime admission to military members and their families year-round.
