Home School Day - September 14

Home School Day - September 14

During this Home School Day, we offer you and your children the opportunity to gain exposure to early 19th century travel and transportation.  During the Village period, America became enamored with travel.  New technology and the opening of roads, canals and railways allowed for easy access and rapid movement between one place and another.  People and goods came and went from all over the world.  Join us in exploring these revolutionary changes!

Take time to ride the stagecoach and boat (free until September 30). Children will also have the opportunity to complete a Village scavenger hunt to receive a prize.  Craft center activities will be available and are priced individually at $5-10 per person.  Also, take part in our hands-on activities and participatory programs.  Registration is required for hands-on studios and Village Classroom programs - please register below.  Transportation-inspired demonstrations, games and performances will also be offered.

Wondering about the weather?  Here is our policy.

We request that parents remain in the Studio space with young children and in the Museum Education building when older children are in a Studio.  It is our recommendation that each child is registered for no more than two studio activities.

Please Note:  Please review your order and selected studios carefully and prior to finalizing your order.  Changes after your order has been submitted may not be possible.

Home School Day Admission

Of special note:

  • Admission to the Village on Home School Day is available at a special home school rate of $7 per child.  One adult per child is also admitted at the home school rate of $7.  Additional adults attending pay the regular Adult admission rate of $20.  Members, children under three, and Sturbridge residents enter for free.
  • Check-in through the Visitor Center begins at 9:30 a.m.; the Village closes at 5:00 p.m.
  • Admission may also be purchased upon arrival but online pre-purchase will help speed up the entry and registration process.   Members:  Please note the following change in Home School Day admission:  Please do NOT register for admission in advance.  We ask that you show your membership card upon arrival.  If there are others in your group who are not on your membership and qualify for the home school rate, you may pay for them upon arrival.
  • Please note tickets are not mailed; following your online purchase, you will receive instructions to print out your tickets and bring them with you for admission.
  • Please note that pre-registration for Studio Activities (see programs by age) is separate and is encouraged, as these programs do fill up in advance.
  • Hands-on studio activities will take place in the museum education building with the exception of the wood studio. The wood studio will take place in the new wood/tin studio located under the Glass Exhibit. Please pay special attention to locations and times of the programs you register your children to take part in.
  • Pre-registration is not necessary for activities in the Hands-On Crafts Center.
  • Admission to the Village (not including the Studio Activities or the Hands-On Crafts Center) is free for Members of Old Sturbridge Village. Membership information and purchase is available online.
  • If registering for hands-on studios or Village Classroom programs, please review your order and selected studios carefully and prior to finalizing your order.  Changes after your order has been submitted may not be possible.
  • Please note that adults paying the Home School admission rate are not eligible for the Village's "second-day free within 10 days" admission policy.

Attention Members: Members of Old Sturbridge Village should not purchase admission in advance; please plan to show your membership card at the Visitor Center.  However, you must register for hands-on studio activities in advance.
