| STURBRIDGE, Mass. (Nov. 2) – On Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11, Old Sturbridge Village will honor the nation’s armed services by offering free admission to the children of active duty U.S. military personnel, half-price admission to U.S. veterans and active duty military servicemen and women (including those in the National Guard), and a 20-percent discount for military husbands and wives. The museum offers active duty personnel the 50-percent discount year-round, as well as a year-round 20-percent discount for military spouses and children.
OSV has long offered Veterans Day discounts, but is adding free admission for military children this year (on Veterans Day and through the month of November) due to the tough economic times. With this year’s Veterans Day discounts, a military family of four (two adults, two children) can visit Old Sturbridge Village for just $26 – a savings of $28 per family. To celebrate Veteran’s Day (which is also a school holiday), Old Sturbridge Village will offer special activities celebrating the nation’s military history. Visitors can march with the militia, “meet the soldiers” in a military timeline, and hear a musical treatment of “A Day in the Life of a Soldier.” There will be musket firing demonstrations, and guests can tour the museum’s Firearms of Freedom exhibit. Visitors can meet the farm animals and historians in costume; enjoy hands-on activities and “make-and-take” crafts. For times and details: www.osv.org; 800-SEE-1830. Old Sturbridge Village celebrates New England life from 1790-1840, and is one of the country's oldest and largest living history museums, with more than 40 restored buildings, a working farm with heritage breed animals, heirloom gardens, and more. The Village is famous for its crafts demonstrations and historical interpreters in period costume. In addition to Veterans Day, OSV presents special events and celebrations of the nation’s military history throughout the year, including Patriots Day activities in April, a “Muster Day” in June, Independence Day celebrations on July 4th, a “Redcoats and Rebels” Revolutionary war reenactment event in August, and a “Drummers’ Call” fife and drum celebration in September. Located just off the Mass Pike, I-84 and Rte. 20 in Sturbridge, Mass., OSV is open year-round, but hours of operation change seasonally. Admission includes free parking and a free second-day visit within 10 days. OSV members receive free daytime admission all year long. For details, visit www.osv.org or call 800-SEE-1830. # # #
