Things ‘Go Bump’ at Old Sturbridge Village |
| Halloween event adds new “Trail of Terror” feature |
| STURBRIDGE, Mass. (Oct. 11, 2009): With its popular “Things That Go Bump in the Night” Halloween event, Old Sturbridge Village offers children the fun of trick-or-treating house-to-house, while giving parents the reassurance of a “spooky-but-safe” setting with no cars or traffic worries. New this year is the “Trail of Terror,” designed for those age 11 and up who are brave enough to venture into the Village countryside for a scarier experience.
This year’s “Bump in the Night,” set for set for 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. Sat. Oct. 24, will take place rain or shine and is sponsored by Country Bank. Cost is $12 per person, with children 3 and under admitted free. Tickets for the “Trail of Terror” are an additional $8. This event often sells out; advance registration is required and tickets are non-refundable. For details, online registration, and information: www.osv.org; 1-800-SEE-1830. For “Bump in the Night,” Old Sturbridge Village turns into a haunted village crawling with ghosts, goblins, witches and wizards, illuminated by hundreds of hand-carved lighted jack-o’-lanterns. In addition to dozens of scary “vignettes,” visitors can enjoy shows by Lucky Bob the Comedic Juggler, and psychic readings with Gary McKinstry. Visitors of all ages get into the spirit of the season by dressing in costume. Last year’s event attracted more than 3,000 people, making it one of the region’s largest Halloween costume parties. Old Sturbridge Village celebrates New England life from 1790-1840, and is one of the country's oldest and largest living history museums, with more than 40 restored buildings, a working farm with heritage breed animals, heirloom gardens, and more. The Village is famous for its crafts demonstrations and historical interpreters in period costume. Located just off the Mass Pike, I-84 and Rte. 20 in Sturbridge, Mass., OSV is open year-round, but hours of operation change seasonally. Cost: $20; seniors $18; children 3-17, $7; children under 3, free. Admission includes free parking and a free second-day visit within 10 days. OSV members receive free daytime admission all year long. For details, visit www.osv.org or call 800-SEE-1830. # # #
