Acclaimed author William M. Fowler Jr., has written many books on American history, including: "Under Two Flags: The Navy in the Civil War"; "Rebels Under Sail: The Navy in the Revolution"; "Samuel Adams: Radical Puritan"; and he co-wrote "America and the Sea: A Maritime History of America." He is the former director of the Massachusetts Historical Society, a former editor of "The New England Quarterly", and he has taught courses on the history of Boston, the history of New England, and America’s maritime history.
