Old Sturbridge Village has an exciting opportunity for a Director of Marketing & Communications, reporting to the CEO. After decades of declining attendance, the museum is in the midst of a renaissance; we are seeing an increase in visitation, fund-raising, and education partnerships. We are seeking a talented and passionate individual with sophisticated marketing, advertising, promotional, editorial, and communications experience, as well as a track record of implementing successful, innovative marketing strategies and providing marketing support for fund-raising efforts.
The Director of Marketing & Communications is responsible for the organization’s marketing, advertising and promotions plan, designed to increase Old Sturbridge Village’s attendance, heighten its visibility, and increase revenue from its earned income enterprises. These include a restaurant business with a large portfolio of catered events including weddings and corporate functions; a 50-room lodging enterprise adjacent to the museum, and retail operations including an on-site gift shop and bookstore that support the museum experience.
The ideal candidate will be creative, energetic, flexible, results-oriented, and an inspiration to his/her colleagues and staff. He/she must simultaneously flourish in a very hands-on role that includes an extensive amount of planning, marketing and promotional program implementation, writing and editing.
Major duties will include:
- Providing leadership and execution in the areas of branding, advertising, promotion, social media, e-mail marketing, collateral materials, market research, and website content management, either directly through staff or by using outside resources.
- Supervising and setting priorities for the in-house marketing and communications team consisting of an art director; marketing and communications coordinator; and a public relations consultant.
- Developing the annual marketing plan and budget. Developing strategies, tactics and resources necessary to achieve the growth goals of the organization.
- Overseeing market and competitor analysis.
- Tracking, measuring and analyzing performance against goal on a monthly basis. Evaluating a variety of performance indicators, including attendance metrics, website traffic, e-mail newsletter opens and clicks, and social media participation.

Ensuring that all of the organization’s communications efforts are coordinated, support the marketing plan objectives and are an effective expenditure of resources.
Requirements
- 5 - 7 years’ marketing and communications experience, demonstrating increasing responsibility, preferably in a tourism destination. Experience with lodging, restaurant and retail marketing and promotion desired.
- Minimum 3 years of managerial experience with multiple direct reports.
- Solid writing and editing experience.
- Bachelor's degree in related field. Advanced degree a plus.
- Incumbent must be available some nights and weekends as needed to support special events.

Foundations Relations Manager
Development Department
Responsibilities
Old Sturbridge Village, the largest outdoor history museum in the Northeast, is seeking an experienced individual to be responsible for all fund-raising efforts related to foundations. OSV has experienced a renewed growth in members, programs and funding and is entering an exciting period of expansion.
Reporting directly to the VP of Development, the Foundations Relations Manager will be a critical part of a growing development effort, responsible for a $500,000 fund-raising goal. They will work closely with executive and program staff to develop and prepare proposals for private, family, and corporate foundations and government granting agencies.
Major duties will include:
- Writing all proposals, acknowledgments and follow-up reports

Maintaining the current grants calendar of upcoming deadlines, grant targets, and projected revenue. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Maintaining contact information and funding criteria in Altru
- Tracking proposals, deadlines, funding criteria, actions, and reporting requirements
- Researching and cultivating potential new funders.
- Working with museum staff, board members, and others to develop proposals and to steward and cultivate current and potential funders.
- Planning and executing cultivation opportunities for foundation contacts
- Scheduling site visits and other foundation contacts as needed
- Generating acknowledgements and reports as required
Other Duties will include:
- Stewardship and cultivation of funders, and attendance at fundraising events.
Requirements
The successful candidate will have a proven track record of successful grant writing, research experience and proficient in MS Excel. Attention to detail, ability to find funding options within the organizations and work both independently and with several staff members as the project dictates.

Housekeeper/Janitor
Housekeeping Department
Responsibilities
Under supervision of the Housekeeping Manager, perform year-round cleaning and general maintenance duties for public restroom areas, buildings, offices, exhibit spaces and other large scale cleaning and maintenance tasks as assigned.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:
- Provide the best experience possible for all visitors
- Ensure the safety and cleanliness of the work area and share responsibility with all staff for the clean and neat appearance of the entire museum
- Keep the public restroom areas throughout the Museum in clean and orderly condition at all times, checking that paper and soap supplies are continually replenished and that all equipment is in functioning order
- Sweep, mop, scrub and vacuum floors as needed
- Empty trash and garbage containers
- Change light bulbs and unclog drains
- Wash windows and steam clean carpet areas and perform other scheduled large area periodic cleaning duties
- Wash windows and display cases
- Care for certain collection items with museum exhibit spaces as directed and prescribed
- Notifies maintenance concerning needs for repairs
- Other duties as assigned

- 1-3 months related janitorial or maintenance experience
- Ability to read, write and communicate routine information and work reliably from written and verbal instructions
