Crafts at Close Range Beginner Hand Quilting |
Three Techniques will be covered during this class. Participants will need to bring with them fabric cutting scissors and a thimble to fit the middle finger of their dominant hand. Hexagon, with six sides, is a popular design used during the 19th century. It is also known as English paper piecing. Techniques covered will be making templates -both cardboard and paper, marking and cutting fabrics, basting fabric to a foundation, and then assembling the hexagons to form a circular piece, using a whip stitch. Finishing options will be covered. Four-patch: participants will make templates, then mark and cut fabrics to make two simple four-patch blocks. The two blocks will be joined and filled with batting to make a pincushion. Whole cloth: participants will layer a top, batting, and backing: baste, and then hand quilt as in an actual quilt. A feathered wreath design will be traced to a piece of muslin which will become the top. |
