August 23Textiles: Heirloom RugmakingThis historical technique from the late 1700s transforms your old and worn clothes and blankets into an heirloom shirred rug. This is a sewn rug using a 3-inch shirring needle and heavy cotten thread. Several types of shirring will be covered including center, bias, patch, and beaded shirring. You will begin by making a beaded wool pincushion by rolling strips of wool into beads and stitching them together for a place to park your needle. Then you will go on to start the center of your own heirloom rug. Open to 10 participants.
