Dinner in a Country Village
December 6, 2008

Enjoy a unique opportunity to prepare and eat a meal the way early New Englanders did. The Parsonage is the setting for this cold-weather Saturday-night program (see full list of dates, below), where costumed interpreters oversee the preparations, but the guests do the chopping, mixing, and stirring. Participants roast meat using a tin reflector oven, fire a brick bake oven, and mull spiced cider over the hearth before sitting down to enjoy the results, all by candlelight. Each evening is limited to 14 adults ages 18 and older. (Please see Families Cook for a version of this program for families with kids ages 8 and up.) The receipts (recipes) to be used this year are:
  • Pounded Cheese
  • Mulled Cider
  • Onion Soup
  • Roasted Carrots
  • Stewed Beets
  • Turnip Sauce
  • Hot Slaw
  • Roast Beef with Kitchen Pepper
  • Horseradish Cream
  • Fricasseed Chicken, Brown
  • Marlboro Pudding
  • Butter Biscuits
  • Trifle
  • Coffee
  • Also, sparkling cider served with dinner.

Registration is online and opens later this month.
