Summer at Old Sturbridge Village

Summer is a great time to see the gardens at Old Sturbridge Village. From the kitchen garden at Freeman Farm to the formal Pleasure Garden at the Towne House, to the Woodland Walk, to the Herb Garden with its colorful antique roses, there's so much growing on!

Father's Day at Old Sturbridge Village

Have fun with Dad at Old Sturbridge Village on his special day.  Learn about what life was like for fathers and kids in early New England.  Challenge Pop to a game of marbles or a hoop race.  Stop by the Hands-On Crafts Center for hands-on blacksmithing or tinmaking.

An 1830s Independence Day Celebration

This Fourth of July, step back to a time when America was new, and veterans of the fight for freedom still lived. Cap off a 19th-century celebration of the holiday with a breathtaking 21st-century display of fireworks at dusk (separate admission).

The Village is transformed into a military camp focusing this year on the period of the War for Independence, as it was known in early New England. Come see what it was really like for those who fought to win America?s freedoms. Great fun for the entire family!

Textile Weekend

A special weekend focusing on textiles.  Recent years' events have focused on bed quilts, quilted clothing, and needlework.  The theme for 2010 is under development.  Please hold these dates and check back for details.

Agricultural Exhibition

Experience an old-fashioned agricultural exhibition complete with demonstrations of early New England farm equipment and displays of Village-grown heirloom vegetables and other accomplishments. Plan now to join the exhibition of Visitor-grown heirloom vegetables!

EXHIBIT: Convenient and Fashionable:
Furniture of Inland Massachusetts, 1790-1830
October 24, 2009 - December 31, 2010
 

This exhibit opening October 24 features rarely-seen pieces of early Massachusetts furniture from the OSV collection and on loan from private collectors.

 
EXHIBIT: Farm, Families and Change  $
May 23, 2009 - December 31, 2015
 

The museum's newest permanent exhibit, Farm, Families and Change, includes new displays in three of the Village's restored barns.  The exhibit addresses questions that resonate today:  "Where does our food come from?" and "Why does the New England landscape look the way it does?"

 
EXHIBIT: Too Good to Be Rags: Mended and Re-Used Textiles  $

Many garments in the Old Sturbridge Village collection show evidence of patching, darning or alterations. It was often easier and more economical to make an old garment last than create a new piece of clothing. Though they may be well-worn and well-loved, these textiles tell a story through their patches, darns and alterations.
