Winter at Old Sturbridge Village

Winter is a magical time to visit the Village, when fresh snow blankets the Common and the Countryside. Bring your skates or try out one of our reproduction sleds, even ride on a horse-drawn sleigh on snowy weekends. Then warm up with cozy indoor offerings.

The Village, which opens at 10:30 a.m. on this winter holiday, honors Martin Luther King, Jr., with a focus on individuals who played significant roles in the abolition and social reform movements in early 19th-century America.   Note:  free admission for kids!

EXHIBIT: Convenient and Fashionable:
Furniture of Inland Massachusetts, 1790-1830

This exhibit on display through early September features rarely-seen pieces of early Massachusetts furniture from the OSV collection and on loan from private collectors.

 
EXHIBIT: Farm, Families and Change
May 23, 2009 - December 31, 2015
 

The museum's newest permanent exhibit, Farm, Families and Change, includes new displays in three of the Village's restored barns.  The exhibit addresses questions that resonate today:  "Where does our food come from?" and "Why does the New England landscape look the way it does?"

The area for safe outdoor skating at Old Sturbridge Village is back this winter (weather permitting, naturally). Bring your skates, we provide the fun!  Also, with good snowcover, try out one of our 1830s-reproduction sleds on the hill near the Cooper Shop.  And watch for the sleigh around the Common...climb aboard near the Tin Shop.
