Instruction by Village craftspeople; make an item to take home. Today’s offerings include:

In the Barnyard
Meet our young team of oxen-in-training in the barnyard near the Towne House. You may visit with heritage breed farm animals also at the Freeman Farm.


The Tavern and the Stagecoach
Head to the Bullard Tavern to catch a ride on the reproduction stagecoach and get a feel for what travel was really like in the 1830s (FREE for a limited time, ends Sept. 30, 2010). Step inside and learn about the role of taverns in the community.

The Fenno Textile Exhibit
Learn about the home production of textiles in early New England and find out what the changes in factory production meant to fashions at home and in everyday dress. Try your hand at carding wool, weaving a pattern, and piecing a quilt block with colorful tiles.

Where does our food come from? Why does the New England landscape look the way it does? Explore these questions and more in these interactive exhibits.

Home Life in the 1830s
An exploratory exhibit for all ages in the Fitch House on the Common. Open the drawers, sit on the beds, imagine yourself living in an 1830s household.

Towne House reopened
The "welcome" mat is out at the Salem Towne House at the foot of the Common; stop in to see the results of recent refurbishment and use your cell phone to take an audio tour of the first floor.

The Labour of My Youthful Hands: new needlework exhibit
See young ladies’ needlework and ornamental arts from the OSV collection. In the Firearms & Textiles exhibit.

The Stagecoach is Here! Fee Program

$3 per person, in addition to Village admission
      Catch a ride on OSV's stagecoach, operating daily through foliage season, then on weekends in November. Get a feel for early New England travel aboard the reproduction Concord coach, then stop into the Bullard Tavern to learn about the ins and outs of getting from here to there in early New England.  (More Information)
