Demonstrations
See ongoing demonstrations until 4pm in the Small House, Tin Shop, Blacksmith Shop, Freeman Farmhouse, and Pottery. Also, see A Cooper at Work (9:30-11:30am; 12:30-4pm), A Shoemaker at Work (9:30am-noon), and A Printer at Work (1-4pm).
* * * Please note the horse-drawn ride around the Mill Pond, which is included with admission, runs from 10am to 1pm and 2:30 to 4pm (weather permitting). * * * Hands-On Crafts Center
Instruction by Village craftspeople; make an item to take home. Today’s offerings include:

The Tavern and the Stagecoach

Head to the Bullard Tavern to catch a ride on the reproduction stagecoach and get a feel for what travel was really like in the 1830s ($3 per person, under 3 may ride free on adult lap). Step inside and learn about the role of taverns in the community.

Also, see an exhibit in the Quinebaug Bridge about the important role rivers played in early New England life.
Dairying in Early New England
This was the time of year when early New Englanders "dried off" the cows (not sure what this means? Ask a farmer!); head to the Towne House – to the lower level where dairying was done – to learn about butter- and cheese-making and what time of year it was done.
Home Life in the 1830s
An exploratory exhibit for all ages in the Fitch House on the Common. Open the drawers, sit on the beds, imagine yourself living in an 1830s household.
The Fenno Textile Exhibit
Learn about the home production of textiles in early New England and find out what the changes in factory production meant to fashions at home and in everyday dress. Try your hand at carding wool, weaving a pattern, and piecing a quilt block with colorful tiles.
The Drummers’ Call: Martial Music in Early New England See rarely-displayed drums, fifes, and related artifacts from the Village’s collections. In the Firearms & Textiles building. We’re interested in your feedback

      Catch a ride on OSV's stagecoach, operating daily through foliage season, then weekends through November.
