Hands-On Crafts Center
Instruction by Village craftspeople; make an item to take home.  Today’s offerings include:

10:00-12:30  Make a Clay Pot ($10)
10:00-4:30  Make a Tin Candleholder  ($5)
2:30-4:30  Dip a Candle  ($5)

Some age and safety restrictions apply.  Cash payment is accepted on site; credit cards also accepted.

The Stagecoach is Coming!
In anticipation of the arrival of a reproduction 19th-century stagecoach later this month (rides will be available), the Bar Room at the Bullard Tavern has taken on a new look.  Learn about travel in early New England and the role of the tavern in the community.

In the Barnyard – Lambs are here!
The newest lambs are near the Fenno Barn; you may see heritage breed farm animals also at the Freeman Farm and near the Towne House.

A Child’s Life at the Fitch House
Life in the early 1800s through the eyes of a child.

From Corset to Cap:  The Layers of Fashion - A rare glimpse at early 19th-century garments in OSV’s collection; located in the Firearms & Textiles Building.

NEW!  The Fenno Textile Exhibit
Learn about the home production of textiles in early New England and find out what the changes in factory production meant to fashions at home and in everyday dress.  See a demonstration of spinning or weaving, and try your hand at some related activities.

Goods from the Woods
Explore the harvest from New England’s forests; located in the Sugar Shack.

New at OSV:  The Small House
Most of the buildings at Old Sturbridge Village are old, but this one is new! Built by our costumed craftsmen with traditional tools and techniques, one in four early New England homes was about this size. We still have some work left to do, but stop in and see our progress.

Discovery Camps at Old Sturbridge Village

Children from age 6 to 17 are invited to experience firsthand what life was like as a kid in a rural early 19th-century New England village.  Register now at www.osv.org/discovery for five-day summer sessions.

 

 

Mother’s Day, May 11

Bring Mom to OSV on Mother’s Day and she gets free admission.  The whole family will enjoy a springtime visit – don’t miss the newborn lambs – and learn how motherhood was different and also the same in early New England.    




Muster Day, May 17

The hometown militia gathers for a day of muskets, fifes, and drums.  For this event, OSV welcomes the 1812 Marine detachment from the U.S.S. Constitution in Boston.

EXHIBIT: Taking Root: The Growing Business of Gardening in Pots in the 1800s

      Now on display in the History Gateway at the entrance to Old Sturbridge Village, this exhibit invites exploration of the art and business of gardening in flowerpots in 19th-century New England.  (More Information)
 
Sunday Brunch at the Oliver Wight Tavern Fee Program
November 11, 2007 - December 31, 2008
Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Tales for Village Tots Fee Program
Preschool Story Hour
January 1, 2008 - December 31, 2008
Every Wednesday
10:00 AM
$6 per child for nonmembers, $3 per child for members
      Geared for children ages 3 to 5, this 45 minute story hour meets in the Visitor Center where children can listen to a story and do a related craft.  (More Information)
